Cosmetic Gynecology - Labial Reduction
A labial reduction is a procedure that reduces in size the labia minora, also referred to as the inner labia, and/or may alternately reduce in size the the labia majora, also referred to as the outer labia. The labial reduction procedure is performed for women who have an elongated, protruding or asymmetrical labia. The labial reduction can also be performed for women who are experiencing sexual or social embarrassment, painful swelling prohibiting exercise, spinning, sweating or sexual intercourse.

The labial reduction procedure may also include augmenting or reducing the labia majora (outer labia) to produce a desired cosmetic appearance.
You are a good candidate for a labial reduction procedure if you are a healthy, emotionally stable adult and have realistic expectations. A labial reduction is a cosmetic procedure and is probably not covered by insurance; however, if you are experiencing labial protrusion to the extent that it interferes with your ability to wear a swimsuit or underwear without discomfort, or you are discomfort while sitting, all or part of your procedure may be covered by your health insurance. If this is the case, discuss it with the Doctor.
The labial reduction procedure is performed under either IV sedation or general anesthesia in our Weston, Florida in-office surgery suite, on an outpatient basis. While under anesthesia, the excess skin of the labia is removed and the remaining labia is sutured. The procedure takes about 45 minutes to an hour to complete.
During your recovery from a labial reduction procedure, there is generally minimal pain and swelling. Ice packs and Tylenol are generally adequate to control discomfort. You may resume normal activities the next day and sexual activities within 3 to 4 weeks.
