Rhinoplasty - Nose Reshaping
Rhinoplasty is done to either correct nose-related health problems such as a nasal fracture or a deviated septum or to reshape the nose for cosmetic reasons. Rhinoplasty can also be used to correct birth defects or help to relieve breathing problems. Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of the nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip.

It is important that the shape of the nose should fit the rest of your face. So choosing a nose shape based on a popular look or trend might be unsatisfactory for you in the end. The Doctor will work with you to create the best possible shape for your nose, so that your nose is balanced with the rest of your face. There are four categories of rhinoplasty.
- Ethnic Rhinoplasty
(Asian, hispanic, etc.)
- Rhinoplasty for
the Twisted Nose
- Standard Rhinoplasty
- Secondary Rhinoplasty

You are a good candidate for a rhinoplasty procedure if you are physically healthy and psychologically stable. It is recommended that children be at least in their teens and have completed their growth spurt before performing rhinoplasty. Insurance policies generally don't cover rhinoplasty surgery unless it is performed to correct a deformity, for reconstructive purposes or for the purpose of correcting a breathing problem.
Rhinoplasty is normally performed as an outpatient procedure, under general anesthesia, at the Ramirez Plastic Surgery Center in-office surgery suite.
Recovery time ranges from 5 to 7 days, perhaps slightly longer for a standard rhinoplasty procedure. Most patients will experience some swelling and bruising which may include the area around the eyes. This can be relieved with ice packs and pain medication. Most patients can return to their normal activities within two weeks. You will be asked to return to the office about two days after your surgery for a postoperative examination and for the removal of any non-absorbable sutures and perhaps the nasal packing, depending on the progress of healing.
It may take up to 6 months before the final shape of the nose will be evident so be patient during this time. Please avoid any contact sports that may injure the nose during this period of time.
